I'm in the middle of writing a short story at the moment, I've written about 10 pages so far and the dialogue and the plot was jogging along nicely and suddenly I put it down for like a day to recharge. When I came back to it I suddenly found I couldn't write anymore, I just stared at the spot where I left off.

This happened to me as an undergrad in college too and one of the professors said that there was no such thing as writer's block and he could easily pound down 30 pages a day when he had free time.

How do you guy's deal with writer's block? Make new projects or wait until you're inspired to continue with the one you've already started? Me? I start new ideas and then come back to my old one--but it might take me months to come back around to the old idea because I already thought of 5 other projects.

I really hate writer's block.

I find the best thing to cure it is to sit down and plan out what you're writing.

Work out where you are, and where you want to go, then try and figure out a way to cross that bridge.

Draw a story map, then write a skeleton, and then fill in the details! This almost always works for me.

I don't write. The simplest answer is the best.

What are you waiting for?

There's probably some good advice among the rant for writers like Vaughn and I.

Stand up.

Go for a cigarette...mull it over.

I don't really know. It's a problem that I deal with frequently myself, I often feel like I must ignore the television, gaming or music until I've fleshed my thing out. I tend to go to some sort of source. Say it's a creepypasta, I'll look up similar creepypastas with the same concept and try to use that as a level of inspiration.

I'm actually dealing with a catastrophic case of writer's block. It's lasted for months. the strange thing is I am not short on ideas, my little spiral notebooks keep filling with them. The actual words just don't seem to be coming. I am thinking I need to read more. This always seems to help.

Didn't feel like making a new thread for this.

Just R.L. Stine talking about what he thinks makes a good horror novel.

Presumably one-dimensional 12 year old protagonists play a major part.

Keep a small note book with you and try to write down daily events in a creative way. Try to embellish real life to get the creative juices flowing.
