When I was little: hermits

Now: all hobos.

Projected escalation: all middle class city people by 30, all people ever by 60.

Solution: become a hermit.

When I was little: The cover of "The Haunted Mask", tight spaces, clowns, that moment between where you turn the lights off and when you're safe in your bed where you have to run for it and sort of jump the last few feet to make sure any hands from under the bed can't grab you because you got too close.

Now: My reflection, having to talk to people.

Projected Phobia: Going outside ever.

Solution: Stay a hermit.

I was afraid of everything as a child. Seriously, everything. I had a crippling fear of Styrofoam.

I have a crazy fear of ducks and geese. I had a few bad childhood experiences with those things.

[quote="CheshireStray"]...that moment between where you turn the lights off and when you're safe in your bed where you have to run for it and sort of jump the last few feet to make sure any hands from under the bed can't grab you because you got too close...

I did the same thing. Then, I'd make some stuffed animal barrier around me; at the age of six, it seemed like a good idea for warding off evil.

I didn't do so well with the movie "Mars Attacks" -- specifically with the humanoid alien lady who bites off Martin Short's finger.

Also, as it's been said, the "Are You Afraid of the Dark" intro (mainly the part with the clown doll or whatever it was) was creepy, along with the "Ramses" ep of Courage. I'm still not a fan of phonographs probably because of that damn episode.

My brother decided to buy me an anime magazine when I was young (10ish) which featured issues of a manga called Parasyte. It's one of my favorites now, but being the sheltered thing that I was, the gore was a little much.

Spoiler:
One day in elementary school (4th grade?), we were playing kickball in the gym for PE. I was in the "outfield" area. The next kicker was really good at slamming the ball into the hanging lights. We'd all go "ooo" and "ahh" when he'd do so, and the light would swing back and forth. (You can guess where this is going.)

Well, on this particular day, he kicks the ball and pegs the light directly above me. I sort of black out. There's a cracking sound followed by a crash, and I look up. I'm twenty feet away from the shattered light. All the kids are silent for a few seconds, either looking at me or the light. Then, they rush over, asking if I'm alright and whatnot. It's strange, because I know I was below it. I guess I just ran really fast?

I would have been a mess to clean up. Ick.

To this day, I have a fear of **** falling on me -- like the hanging TVs in wal-mart and the occasional ceiling fan.

("groovy"? Love it.)

Him, and the story behind him. I was scared to MOVE after reading that, and my mom was so pissed at my sisters for giving me the book. The rest of the stories were great, it was only Harold that got to me, still don't know why.

Also, this guy:

Still don't know why, but Never Ending Story always gave me nightmares because of him. No, it wasn't the black wolf looking dude, it was the giant effing dog.

That episode scared the bejeezus out of me.

I loved Courage until the last episode where we see Courage controlling his "parents" with strings like they were puppets, implying they were dead the whole time and it was all in his mind

What.

No.

The puppet episode wasn't the last episode. It was Perfect.

And that isn't what that meant at all, in context.

I was always terrified I'll become homeless. (Seriously) And... I still am:/ DAMN YOU ECONOMY!

As for media, I think I was most frightened when I saw blood on the simpsons when I was 8th in this one episode in which homer lost his finger. (I liked those characters at that time, and it came as a shock to me. Although even at that time I watched pretty gorey movies, which didn't really shock me:O)

When my mum was driving and a bird flew into into the windscreen. It flapped a few times before it fell of the windscreen onto the road and died. It happened again recently when I was at a friends house and one flew into their conservatory window, it was badly hurt but still kept flapping haphazardly before it died.
I suppose my fear is of something barely alive but alive enough to hurt.
