Because every forum needs some rules, right?


- Don't be a moron and don't be a "troll." Yes, we are rather silly and can be quite abrasive to new people, but that doesn't mean you should go apeshit and act out. Wanna go full retard? Do it in the right area or you can be a retard somewhere else. Basically, have some common sense and follow the rules.

- Think before you post. You don't have to answer every single active thread. If you got something meaningful and / or relevant to add to the thread, then go ahead and post. If not, then you really don't need to post it, right? Here are some other policies concerning posting etiquette around here:

1. Double posting. If your second comment is relevant to your first comment, relevant to the thread as a whole, or is in response to another comment you didn't respond to with your first comment; then it's perfectly fine. If some kind of error/glitch occured and your comment shows up twice, that's fine as well. Shit happens. Either people will ignore it or somebody with the ability to will delete it for you will. No need to get crazy and go into triple or quadruple posting, though.

2. Necromancy. If you bump an old thread with a meaningful or relevant comment, especially if it's bumped by a new member, that's perfectly okay. It's when those bumps are done by shit posting and / or "I agree" type of posts.

3. Thread derailment. This is something we regulars just happen to do. We don't mean any disrespect by it. If you're the OP and you want us to stay on topic for your thread, please ask nicely and we'll probably listen. But it's easier to just go with the idea that we're going to derail the thread because that just happens through no real fault of our own.

4. Shit posting. Inappropriate and / or purposely offensive comments are unwelcome. There will be consequences for this kind of thing (Note: Thornsmith is an exception to this simply because she has established herself as that kind of person; we just don't take her seriously). Comments that are completely irrelevant to the thread are annoying, but won't warrant any disciplinary actions beyond us telling you to think before posting and to try to add more meaningful comments from then on. If you continue to ignore our advice, then there will be consequences (essentially, time spent locked in the Department).

5. Labyrinth. If you are going to post a screenshot from the movie "Labyrinth", it must have David Bowie in it. I mean, come on. How can you post a screenshot of that movie without David Bowie. This should just be common sense, people.

- Know where to put what. Don't just throw threads into whatever sections you want to without paying attention to what you're doing. Once or twice will be tolerated and the thread moved for you, but if you repeatedly do this, there will be consequences. Just to give you some idea of what I mean: Do you have feedback about and / or suggestions for the forum as a whole? That goes in the "Feedback and suggestions" thread (obviously), which can be found in General Announcements. Do you have a creepypasta or a horror story? That goes in Creepypasta. Comedic and satirical creepypasta go in Parodies. Pictures, comics, videoes, and other visual arts with a horror lean go in Visual Creepypasta. Do you have a silly or off-beat topic you want to discuss? That goes in Number University. Do you want to go completely stupid and let off some steam by posting shit that is too crazy for even Number University? That goes in Department of Redundancy Department. Everything else, I would hope, is pretty self-explanatory.

- Do not delete your stories. It doesn't matter how badly people criticized it or told you that it sucks; we hate when people delete their stories. Either accept that you wrote a bad story and move on with your life (we have all written bad stories, so you're not the only one) or rewrite it and edit over the shame (that'll show those bastards, right?). If you go the route of editing or rewriting your story, use the same thread you started with by doing one of the following things: 1. Completely replace the original posted story with the rewritten / edited one, 2. Post the rewritten / edited story in a seperate post in the same thread (a method used by our own CaptainZombieYeti), or 3. Post the rewritten / edited story in the first post and put the original story in spoiler tags (a method used by member Tekkactus). This cuts down on the clutter that would come from everybody posting their revisions as seperate threads.

This is so people know what to expect as far as consequences for breaking the rules are concerned. Since mods can't lock people in the Department, they're free to either ask OM or I to do it, or to take what they feel is appropriate action at those levels of the scale. Reasons for taking an action will be discussed; but I trust OM, CK, and GO to make the right choices.


Scale of Disciplinary Actions:
Once or twice (maybe three times at the most) will get you a warning with appropriate action taken against the offense (deleting comments, moving threads, etc).

Repeated offense while ignoring the warnings of the admins and / or mods will get you time locked in the Department (usually a week).

Continued offense after being let out of the Department will get you put back in there permanently or get you temporarily banned from the forum.

Continued offense while in the Department or after returning from the temp-ban will get you permanently banned from the forum and your username deleted from the members list.
