The age restrictions won't keep them out. And what makes these concerned parents think that the types of stories they'll find on creepypasta sites are any worse psychologically for young kids than physical books they might find in a used bookstore? I'll tell you this much, the parents didn't impose the age restriction; that would be the creepypasta sites, themselves. And even though the restrictions aren't going to stop any kid who knows how to add up to 18, the gesture itself is an admission of guilt.

Although, after searching, I didn't find any age restrictions on the two main sites. Where have the age restrictions taken effect, Candleclock?

On creepypasta.com, you'd get a red square with:

Quote:
This website contains fictional content that may be too scary for younger readers.

Please verify that you are either at least 18 years of age or have parental permission before proceeding.

I am at least 18 years old

Of course, it won't stop anyone - they do the same thing on the porn sites, after all. Just a symbolical gesture.

As I see from derp's statement, he already received some complaints from the concerned parents, hence all that stuff.

It kinda reminds me a bit of my own tween years, so very long ago, where we dare our friends to say bloody Mary into a mirror. Or make up sightings about the Jersey Devil, being in the middle of the woods in Jersey made this a bit more creepy. What we call creepypasta's are hardly new, only the medium in which we tell them. Such story have been around for a very long time and every now and again someone will be crazy enough to try and bring them to life.

I feel sorry for the victim, not that I know them, but wish her a good recovery. I also shake my head at the media that should know better by now from music scares, video games, card games, D&D, movies, sponge bob, and anything else they decide must be turning your kid into a serial killer. Oh well, I donated fifteen bucks because I happen to have it and get back to writing.

---edit
Just noticed that there are two fundraisers for this
http://www.youcaring.com/nonprofits/nar ... rce=widget
http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundra ... ack/186588

The narrators united one is at least worded better, the other one comes off as a news report.
