I've decided to just make a thread here so I don't clutter up the whoring thread with geekery and multi-posts.

If future generations stumble upon this, I'm remaking the entirety of OoT in minecraft. Progress pics will be here as will geeky conversations on how to properly handle everything and advice on how to make it more true to the game.

Thanks. I'll throw it up for download after I finish the woods. After I get the structure done I'll be doing stuff with the ceiling so the lighting is similar. As of right now, entrances that would port to different zones (Goron city, zora's domain) just lead to an obsidian wall. Also the part of the woods that overlooks the bridge to the overworld isn't going to happen. I must have screwed up the scaling at some point. either that or the whole thing was screwy in the original. I dunno. I don't have room to make it in the actual forest because of how things are set up. I'd end up cutting into the village to place it. I should probably fix it at some point, but it's not a priority.

but yeah, i'd definitely appreciate a playtest to make sure i made it look convincing to someone other than myself haha

You know, I had my doubts with the initial screenshots, but it's really shaping up. With a nice paintmod, this could be really awesome.

yeah this fuckin thing's getting modded to hell. I'm going to learn to make custom textures as well. i really want it to be awesome. I've looked at other peoples' remakes of OoT and I think I'm doing pretty good so far compared to others. Well, there's this one dude who's made a few temples and whatnot who did pretty awesome, and it appears he's doing the whole world as well.

i hope the paint mod can be fucked with to add smaller pixels and different colors or something. doubt it, but one can dream

Wait, people have already done this?

Dare I ask, why are you doing it then? I mean, it's a cool idea, but if it's already done it's like insisting you invent something that's already been invented.

Because I know I can finish it and do it better. No one's done the entire thing yet. The closest I've seen as far as dungeon functionality has been doors. DOORS. I haven't seen a single finished product. It's always zones, and the maker mentions how they're unfinished.

I want it to be the full thing. Ideally with playable dungeons, but I need certain mods finished for that, I think. Plus I'm one person building all this with the intention of completing it. Many others have a bunch of people on a server "working on it" and barely have the forest and the deku tree done.

It's a challenge for me I guess. Sometimes I see something and all I can think to myself is "I could do it better."

Alright, that makes a ton of sense. I thought you meant someone else had completed it.

This might help with some of the more fine details in the game. Maybe symbols and door markings.

zelda: ocarina of time

edit/update:

So i played the game today for the first time in a while. originally i was working off of screenshots. playing the game helped me notice a lot of design flaws. i might start over from scratch because i fucked up the scaling bad in some areas. also the pool leading to the zora's domain in the lost woods is LOL. note to self-don't work from memory on that shit.

UPDAAAATE
Fixed some shit in the lost woods and made a little progress there.
Currently working on the great deku tree. so far i have his little enclosure (still need to make the walls taller and plant trees on top of them), the outline of the actual tree, his face, and a long obsidian tunnel ending in a portal to the nether which will contain the actual dungeon. pics later when i'm back on the main comp and when it's a little less sloppy.

also, i've been thinking about the big web on the floor in the first room. Dropping onto the web still causes fall damage, and then you verrryryyy slooooowly fall through. suggestions on how to make this a bit "cleaner"? should i just leave a big hole in the middle until i find a way to make this an actual dungeon?

You could maybe use a layer of floating water somewhere during the fall to prevent fall damage. All youd have to do is figure out how to use two different skins for water so you could make it invisible when you need to.

good idea again!
i need to get on htat whole texture pack thing.

oh by the way-
i have a much longer term project that i'll very slowly be working on.
i'm going to (with the help of ray) learn to code and learn my way around a few programs and make an emulator of oot. i know it's been done, but i plan to add a few things. namely i'll be adding creepy elements throughout the game that culminate in one big terrifying clusterfuck of scary after a sidequest chain or two. that's as far as i've gotten with that idea. i don't want to get ahead of myself though, that's why it's going to be a long term project (we're talking years here, lots of years maybe)
