I've been reading real comics lately. Why don't we have a thread for that?

Actually, I've just been reading the Fables series. And now I'm pretty much caught up. And now I...wait...for issues to come out...? To find out what happens next, apparently.

I don't think I've ever really been into something that is still in the process of being made. I don't like this waiting thing.

I think you introduced me to Paranatural once before. I should go back to that.

I really only read GC and Sluggy Freelance (because I'm stupid), as well as SMBC and QC.

Are we talking about real comics in here? just recently got a copy of Bedlam. Not too far into it but its pretty interesting and seems like its going in a good direction.

I heard that Bedlam doesn't go anywhere.

I just read Pretty Deadly which was great and also if you haven't read them, the graphic novels they did of Ligotti's books are pretty fantastic.

On the subject of webcomics, in QC I choose to believe that rather than kissing martin on the cheek, the really tall awkward dark haired girl leaned close to him and said the word "smooch" because it's funnier that way.

Also I'll get to Paranatural eventually. I have tried starting it a few times and keep getting bogged down in the early parts.

Yeah, the first few pages of paranatural are oddly sketchy. I mean, all artists start somewhere and improve, but there's a pretty sharp dropoff from "literally pencil sketches" to where the color starts, which is pretty nice. I wouldn't object in the least to Zack going back to redraw it all, but I guess he doesn't care for now.

if you would like to read comics about straight people, i would recommend: almost literally every single other one

Honestly thought that guy is a hack, and I say that as someone who read Shortpacked for years and years.

I recently found a pretty good creepy webcomic called The Last Halloween. Pretty good! More humor than horror, but a ton of fun.

Thing is it's just stupidly unrealistic to have like

legit 80% of your cast

be gay or bi

Like, even QC is more realistic.

Doesn't help that the dude goes full SJW in the comments section sometimes

We can have a girl who dresses up like batman and jumps around like an acrobat, but LGBT people are too fantastic? A comic about fucking ANDROIDS resembles reality better than "gay people"?

I mean, I'm talking to someone who uses the phrase "SJW" without a trace of irony, so I should probably stop myself now, but there's zero reason to look down your nose on diversity unless you seriously think there's something negative about the presence of gay characters. Even if what you said was true, even if there are no places where friend groups manage to reach a "legit 80 percent" saturation in real life (spoiler alert: they do), fiction doesn't exist to service reality, which is why we have fucking batgirl and mike and every single other character apparently capable of making a punchline happen as part of their daily lives. It's fiction, moaning because one author in a thousand decided to make an effort to include a bunch of different kinds of people is kinda gross at best, and at worst makes you the ******* who says stuff like "diversity for the sake of diversity".

EDIT: Addressed all that at bears, didn't see Krypto's post. I would almost certainly call Willis a hack most of the time, but it certainly doesn't have anything to do with the gay percentage of his cast.

I honestly did not notice how many of his characters in Dumbing of Age were gay because I just sort of assume that they all are, like either straight acting and secretly gay or out and gay or gay and secretly bi or bi and secretly poly or something else. I kind of feel like that is kind of the theme of Dumbing of Age.

I don't think it's just like bad writing "oh I'm in a corner so this character is gay now" it's more "the theme of this comic is people experimenting with/discovering their sexuality and gender identity" so really complaining about that happening is like coming to a korean bbq and complaining about all the beef.

That said I do not really follow Dumbing of Age. I stopped reading all of his stuff when I just gradually found his comic less and less funny and pleasant over the years. It just seemed like most plotlines/relationship plot lines resolved in someone doing something shitty and everyone being sad.

also I mean, there's like between 3-5 gay people, two of whom may be bi instead which is y'know, different. not quite sure how that equates to 80% of the cast.

Have any of you been following that one webcomic by the Chainsaw Suit guy? ****. Um. Broodhollow. I mean it's kind of **** compared to Ichor Falls which is one of the best CreepyPasta projects ever, but it's OK.
